Valia Allori

BIOGRAFIA:
Sono professore associato presso il Dipartimento di Filosofia presso la Northern Illinois University. Sono interessato alla metafisica, filosofia della scienza, in particolare la filosofia della fisica.
Ho studiato fisica e filosofia prima in Italia, il mio paese d’origine, e poi negli Stati Uniti. Ho lavorato nei fondamenti della meccanica quantistica, in particolare nel quadro della meccanica Bohmiana, una teoria quantistica, senza osservatori.
La mia preoccupazione principale è sempre stato come possiamo usare la nostra migliore teoria fisica per rispondere a tali domande metafisiche generali.
Nella mia tesi di dottorato di fisica (Genova, 2001), ho discusso il limite classico della meccanica quantistica, per analizzare le connessioni tra quantistica e teorie classiche.
Nella mia filosofia tesi di dottorato (Rutgers, 2007), mi rivolsi a questioni più generali che coinvolgono la struttura delle teorie fisiche fondamentali, lo stato metafisico e il ruolo epistemologico delle entità teoriche utilizzati in queste teorie. Tutte le teorie fisiche fondamentali hanno la stessa struttura, contrariamente a quanto si potrebbe pensare? Se è così, che cosa è questo che ci dice sulla natura della spiegazione?

La teoria della relatività, la meccanica statistica e la meccanica quantistica hanno profondamente rivoluzionato il nostro modo di concepire spazio, tempo, materia, probabilità e causalità, nonché il rapporto tra universo fisico ed osservatore, nozioni che sono state al centro della discussione filosofica dal mondo greco fino ai nostri giorni. Questo volume, opera di Valia Allori, Mauro Dorato, Federico Laudisa e Nino Zanghì, non solo intende suggerire nuovi metodi di confronto tra fisica e filosofia, ma prova altresì a rendere espliciti i presupposti filosofici che sono presenti nell’interpretazione che i fisici stessi danno del formalismo matematico.
